POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director of Student Care and Special Projects also serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. This staff member operates in compliance with all requirements under Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972.
The Assistant Director of Student Care and Special Projects is responsible for the development and leadership of student care, which may include student care case management, working with a team of other student affairs professionals to coordinate responses to student crises or behavioral interventions, and Title IX implementation. The Assistant Director provides guidance and works closely with Campus Security, the Counseling Center, Student Success and Academic Advising, and other campus partners to coordinate student care efforts.
The Assistant Director plays a critical role in ensuring an educational environment that is safe and nurturing to student growth and development. Working closely with the Dean of Students, the Assistant Director will coordinate educational sessions and training (e.g. Clery, Stop Hazing Now, drug and alcohol) for the campus community as required by state and federal legislation.
In addition to managing cases related to student care, providing training and education to the campus community related to mandatory state and federal legislation, and serving as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Assistant Director will oversee the Purple Basket, Westminster’s food pantry accessible to all Westminster students. The Assistant Director may also on occasion be asked to serve as a hearing officer for non-academic misconduct cases as long as the case does not create a conflict of interest with student care.
The Assistant Director will also assume responsibilities for special projects in service of Student Affairs. For example, the Assistant Director will coordinate onboarding of new staff to the Division, collaborating with colleagues to provide a welcoming and comprehensive introduction to Student Affairs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education and Policy
Develop and implement an updated drug and alcohol awareness education program for students on an annual basis.
Develop and implement yearly education and training related to Westminster’s hazing policies and prevention strategies.
Collaborate with campus partners (e.g. Counseling Center, Student Health Services, Student Success) to deliver workshops and training related to mental health and wellbeing.
Coordinate and present emergency response procedure training for students, faculty, and staff.
Collaboratively develop and present active and passive educational programming for students on Westminster Community Standards and the Code of Student Conduct.
Care and Crisis Response
Directly oversee the triage of student care cases and manage the daily caseload while implementing accurate record keeping.
Provide direct outreach to students in active crisis and/or with complex wellness concerns while working in coordination with the Director of Campus Security when appropriate.
Serve as essential and on-call personnel in preparing for, responding to, and addressing the recovery from student or campus-wide crisis issues and those issues related to campus safety.
Serve as a primary contact for Safe UT for student crisis response and support.
Maintain daily operations of Westminster’s Purple Basket food pantry.
Leadership and Representation
Set a strategic vision for student care that aligns with the strategic goals of Student Affairs and is situated within the institution’s larger strategic vision.
Receive, working in coordination with the Dean of Students, non-academic grievances, specific to student complaints of any type (e.g., student conflicts, bias, hazing; potential discrimination; policy discrepancies).
Coordinate and lead the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) with support from the Dean of Students.
Work with the Title IX Coordinator and other Deputy Title IX Coordinator to evaluate Title IX reports and maintain professional standards and best practices for case resolution.
Serve on campus committees, promote policies and programs, and reinforce appropriate levels of student care.
Maintain the institution’s case management software (Maxient Conduct Manager/ Advocate) for Student Affairs and partners.
Serve as the onboarding coordinator for new members of the Student Affairs team.
Advise the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dean of Students, and select colleagues on high-risk student cases.
Assessment and Reporting
Develops and implements data gathering processes and materials for the purposes of reporting trends to leadership, data collection and analysis, and program reviews.
Supports the Director of Campus Security and Dean of Students with completion of the Clery Report and reports of campus hazing.
Conduct, coordinate, submit, and post the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Regulations [Edgar Part 86] Biennial Review.
Resource and Referral
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of institutional feedback surveys in conjunction with other campus offices.
Advise the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Dean of Students on high-risk student cases.
Maintain contacts and relationships with off-site campus resources including, but not limited to: Rape Recovery Center, UCASA, etc.
Additional Responsibilities:
Designated as Campus Security Authority. May be designated as essential personnel in cases of campus closure or emergency.
Assist with University-wide events such as convocation, commencement, new student orientation, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to respond to significant student care incidents and/or crises after-hours on occasion.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field.
Two or more years of directly related professional work experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations, practices, and procedures, identified best practices, and trends in the field of higher education related to student care.
Experience conducting internal investigations under Title IX.
Demonstrated cultural competence sensitivity to the concerns and needs of diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to work with sensitive and complex situations in a professional and confidential manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing and conducting Title IX and Clery Act trainings for students, staff, and faculty.
